Can I share my story with you?

Hi, I'm Irene Evangelou,  I am the owner and director of Irene Evangelou Therapy.

I grew up in Greece. When I turned 18, I decided it was time for change and I moved to my other home, here in Australia.

Even though I seemingly looked 'perfect' on the outside, I was experiencing crippling anxiety with bouts of depression and was not enjoying my life - I always knew I wanted something 'else'.

My professional background in Psychology, Counselling and Rapid Transformational Therapy taught me a lot, especially how to live my life in balance with my wants and needs and feel grounded and present in the moment so I can enjoy the journey and appreciate the people in my life.

But I wasn't always like that. I was all about the hustle, striving to get everything, feeling the pressure to be what everyone expected me to be, comparing my 'achievements' to people with different means and support systems, judging my shortcomings and never feeling good enough!

Since hitting my lowest point, I have been deeply committed to my own personal journey of overcoming anxiety, self-discovery, and growth. I believe that through my own personal journey and experiences with counselling and RTT, I have truly seen how it has worked, not just on me, but on the clients I have worked with.

I am not your average or typical therapist. Drawing from a diverse range of techniques, personal learnings and practices, I empower my clients to challenge their beliefs and feelings, take back control of their minds and live their lives fully, with ease, and confidence.

In summary, my personal WHY of ‘overcoming life challenges by making peace with anxiety’ has led me to my private practice, "Irene Evangelou Therapy."

I support women who struggle with anxiety, self-worth, self-confidence, stress (+more), or life's challenges to finally become and feel free from limiting beliefs, trust themselves, and make peace with anxiety.

Based in Melbourne, I work with clients around AUS and internationally via Zoom. Through my powerful guidance and compassionate but honest approach, I can help you overcome anxiety or life’s challenges with a calm and confident mindset.

My approach and style

My counselling approach has its centre around a humanistic perspective, where you, the client, are the primary point of our work. I firmly believe in everyone's inherent capacity for healing, given the appropriate conditions. My goal is to offer you a safe and calm space to process your experiences at your own pace, integrating anxiety-related tools to help you navigate the emotional, behavioural, and reactive impacts of anxiety.

In my practice, I use various therapeutic modalities, including Mindfulness, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, and Emotion Focused Individual Therapy. Additionally, I may incorporate mediation techniques when appropriate, always ensuring thorough communication beforehand to clarify the purpose and potential benefits.

I look forward to the possibility of working together and supporting you in your journey toward healing.

I provide online counselling sessions across Australia, using secure, reliable, and easy-to-use video platforms. Many people prefer online sessions because it’s more convenient, private, and more accessible to people who are busy, work from home or live in remote areas.

I will provide you with additional information regarding online sessions if you decide to engage in online counselling.

Online Counselling

Who I work with

I work with women age 18 and above who experience anxiety, especially high-functioning anxiety, .

I also work with women who tend to burnout, people-please, procrastinate, socially isolate which result in low self-worth, more anxiety and depression.

Counselling can help you process your anxiety, reduce self-destructive behaviours, strengthen your relationships and improve emotional self-regulation. Embracing anxiety can help you build a better future.

I want you to remember that you are not your anxiety, but untreated anxiety can cause complications throughout your life if left untreated. In our work together I can help you work through your experience, allowing you to process it in a safe way and getting you to live the life you deserve.
